    Transcendence

    Mariyam Omar-Maldives & Abu naser robii-Bangladesh

The transitional gap and mystery of cultures intertwine and reveal reflections of hope, wonder and amazement surrounding it all. The mystery of dialogues, language and soft interludes within the eyes are revealed through images of innermost thoughts that were difficult to grasp within a simple dialogue that separates from the intrigue within the eyes.

These images arousing such curiosity are viewed through the box installation with the hope of a quiet interaction between parallel worlds that share so much.

Confinement on all levels... There is an irony and paradox concealed within this almost curious installation with a strong sense of foreboding.

The loosing of oneself at the doorway of feeling restrained within the comfort of one’s home.

    Carrying Pole

    Carrying Pole

    Ya-Chu Kang

Material: Advertisement paper, linen thread, bamboo, paper bag

    Size:

Statement: Two sides of the carrying pole can carry anything. I try to figure out the balance of the situation. The weaving basket was made by the advertisement paper that was found in daily life. I collected the paper bags from the market and they were made by recycle school books. These two different object presents human’s life which sinks into realization and chimera. It’s difficult to resist in our environment. Take a rest then you can start fighting again.

    Place: Shelter

    Self-reflection

    Ya-Chu Kang

    Material: Saree, chador

    Size: Performance (5~10 minutes)

Statement: In traditional way, women cover their face and body in Bangladesh. There is the absence of women on the streets and in the marketplaces. During my performance, I wore traditional costume and walked on the street. I looked at the women and showed my chador to them. There is one word “AvÍcÖwZwe¤” on the chador which means self-reflection. During this process, people might look at me and think about me and themselves. The feeling of scare, nervous, confused and curious was happened with us at that moment.  You see, what you see; then go back to yourself.
